I have several meat thermometers, but there was always some short falls. Not long enough, hard to find in my storage drawer, or simply not a very good build quality. I had guests arriving and we were going to both BBQ and roast some expensive meats, so I decided I needed to measure my temperature with something simply better. I went to my favorite shopping store, Amazon, to see if there was something better suited for my needs. There I found the HABOM Instant Read Meat Thermometer. I read the reviews and studied the specifications and it was easy to see this meat thermometer would far exceed my needs plus provide a few more qualities. A nice size in my hand, this prob was great. Safer when folded up, but easy to unfold and use. I especially liked the assorted switches on the handle to setup my thermometer, plus a new feature for me — a switch for a light to read when I was BBQing in the dim light. This is a nice thermometer. The probe is long enough to check meat but not so long that you dont use it to temp check liquids in measuring cups.The display is large and clear. The tiny flashlight seems unnecessary, but who knows in a blackout it might be crucial. Or not.The package was tidy and secure. The first time I opened the probe it was really difficult. That first time you have to use what feels like to much force to flip it open. Not as much resistant therafter.This is a great buy at this price. Definitely get your money's worth.
This is a poorly designed product.- The swing-out motion of the thermometer probe makes it awkward to use while cooking as it requires two hands.- The backlight on the screen turns off within 1-2 seconds, making it almost impossible to read the temperature without constantly pressing the backlight button.- The thermometer automatically turns on when you swing the probe out, and off when you swing it closed. There is a power saving feature which turns the thermometer off after 5+ minutes.With regular gentle usage, the probe very quickly dislodged itself from the thermometer body. I tried to apply some super glue to hold it in place, which worked for a few more days, but eventually the metal probe sleeve pulled out and the thermocouple inside was pulled out. It was impossible to slide the thermocouple back to the end of the metal sleeve, rendering the thermometer useless. Conveniently, it broke just a few weeks after the return window closed.
This thing is a lifesaver! My fiance and I cannot see eye to eye on how we like our steaks done. I prefer a nice medium-rare or medium steak, while she enjoys the thing well, well done (I cry inside every time). I have found myself over-cooking my steak while I wait for her's to cook through, or I undercook her's while mine comes out perfect. Something had to give: I couldn't keep undercooking her steaks, and I sure as heck couldn't keep overcooking mine. Enter the HAMBOM Instate Read Thermometer!I bought this product because of the unbeatable price and was very surprised at how sturdy this thing was. As a nice touch, it is magnetic, so it hangs on our fridge and also has a bottle opener to open up them tasty beverages while I grill.I'm not sure how I went so long without having one of these in our home, but now that I have, no more guessing on our steaks, no more undercooked chicken, and I look forward to getting my pork tenderloin to a perfect medium/medium-well!
