Dermalogica Winter Skincare Routine

Dermalogica Winter Skincare Routine

Skincare is always on people’s to-do lists in summer – especially when travelling abroad to hotter countries where they’ll be exposed to much more sun than usual… the majority of us reach for the SPF and cover ourselves in it daily to protect our skin from the sun.

But when it comes to winter, how many of us make any changes to our skincare? Probably not many.

Skincare in winter is just as important as it is in the summer. Just like in the summer months, your skin is exposed to a completely different environment – colder air, lower humidity and indoor heating can irritate and dry the skin.

This is where your winter skincare routine comes in.

This January I’m mixing up my skincare routine and trying a few new products to take extra care of my skin. I’m trying out Dermalogica’s Winter Care Kit which is a six step process to make sure my skin is hydrated, nourished and protected throughout winter.

Dermalogica picked out these six products and recommended them to give skin an extra boost of hydration this winter.

STEP 1 – PRE CLEANSE BALM

The first step in the Dermalogica Winter Care Kit is to use the Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse Balm. This is a balm-to-oil formula that melts away makeup and dirt from the skin. To use, apply it to the skin (before dampening) and massage in circular motions. Add water to emulsify the product and then rinse it off.

STEP 2 – INTENSIVE MOISTURE CLEANSER

If you thought the cleansing was finished in step 1, you were wrong. Step 2 is where the ‘proper’ cleansing begins. The Intensive Moisture Cleanser is a light creamy cleanser which is enriched with BioReplenish Complex. A creamy cleanser is much more gently on the skin in winter – foaming cleansers can be too harsh and strip the skin of moisture leading to irritation.

Once the skin is damp from pre-cleanse, massage the Intensive Moisture Cleanser into the skin and rinse with warm water.

STEP 3 – REDNESS RELIEF ESSENCE

This does pretty much what it says on the bottle… it works to reduce redness in the skin. The Redness Relief Essence is lightweight, like a toner but contains a highly concentrated formula to provide the skin with what it needs to nourish and replenish it’s barrier – much like a serum.

It works to reduce redness in the skin by strengthening the skin’s barrier and keep it hydrated.

To use, apply it to your palm and pat it gently over the face and neck. I usually apply toner using dispense the product onto the cotton pad and take it over my skin. Whichever method you use, remember to shake the bottle well before use.

STEP 4 – BARRIER DEFENSE BOOSTER

This is exactly what skin needs in the winter! After applying the Redness Relief Essence, follow with the Barrier Defense Booster. This product works to soothe, nourish and moisturise the skin. It’s even perfect for sensitive skin. Just like with the Redness Relief Essence, apply the product to your palm and pat onto your face and neck.

Alternatively, add the product to your moisturiser and apply the two products together.

STEP 5 – NIGHTLY LIP TREATMENT

The lips also need TLC in winter and the Dermalogica Nightly Lip Treatment is perfect for this. More than a lip treatment, it’s also a perioral treatment which smoothes the appearance of laughter and feather lines around the lip area while you sleep. After cleansing, apply to the lips and the area around the lips, massaging it in.

STEP 6 – INTENSIVE MOISTURE BALANCE

The final step of the Dermalogica Winter Skincare Routine is the Intensive Moisture Balance. It’s a rich antioxidant moisturiser to thoroughly hydrate the skin and provide moisture 10 layers deep. The perfect moisturiser for dry skin, it can be applied twice daily after cleansing.
